The AIA California Central Coast Chapter, Allen Construction, and the Design Awards Committee would like to announce the Call for Entries for the 2018 AIA.CCC Design Awards. This is an opportunity to display your talents and accomplishments in celebration of design. Awards will be presented at the Gala Banquet on October 19, 2018, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM, at The Monday Club. All participants, their families, friends, and associates are invited to attend. Light appetizers, wine, and beer will be provided for attendees.

Eligibility & Submission Details

  • AIA.CCC members and Affiliates may submit any project in any location, un-built or built in the last five years.
  • AIA members from other chapters and non-AIA members from the local San Luis Obispo Architecture Scene may submit local projects only (SLO county), un-built or built in the last ten years.
  • All projects must be designed by a Registered Architect.
  • All entries must be received online by the October 5th.
  • No limit to the number of submissions per firm.
  • Use the above link for submission of your PowerPoint presentation and PDF Presentation Board.
  • Follow instructions included in the online submission form.
  • This is an anonymous submission and award process. Do not use any identifying marks, names or logos for the submitting firm.
  • Entrants will be asked to download a PowerPoint template for their use in preparing a submission. An entrant may re-use the PowerPoint Template from the 2016 Awards Program to save time.
  • Entrants will be asked to upload a pdf of an 18″x24″ Presentation Board to be printed by the AIA and displayed at the Awards Gala. (Printing cost included with the entry fee)


  • Cost for AIA members and Affiliates: $150 for the first submission and $75 for each subsequent submission.
  • Cost for non-AIA members: $225 for the first submission and $100 for each subsequent submission.
  • Fees shall be non-refundable.
  • The cost of printing of the 18×24 boards is included in the submission fee.
  • Individuals or firms submitting projects and paying fees shall receive the following regardless of the number of submissions:
    • Two complimentary event tickets, which include event entry and hosted beer and wine as well as strolling buffet supper at the Gala.

Judging Criteria

The Jury will review the submissions and bestow Awards to worthy projects, which have successfully resolved their design challenges.

Awards will be conferred to two categoriesBuilt Work and Un-built Work in the following four Levels of Recognition:

  • Excellence (At the discretion of the Jury)
  • Honor
  • Merit
  • Citation (At the discretion of the Jury)

Criteria for the Built Work Category:

  • Completed projects within the past 10 years, may be submitted for consideration for a Design Award.
  • Typologies may include, but are not limited to:
    • Residential
    • Commercial
    • Interiors
    • Institutional
    • Educational
    • Religious
    • Historic Preservation
    • Urban Design
    • Mixed-Use.

Criteria for the Un-Built Category:

  • The Un-built Work category recognizes conceptual work, future projects, or those under construction including, but not limited to
    • Un-built architecture projects
    • Land art
    • Research
    • Architectural objects and installations
    • Previously submitted architectural/design competition entries

Projects undertaken for academic credit are not eligible.
